MALAWI PARLIAMENT IS BACK

that time is hear again. the 193 members house situated in the city of Lilongwe meets this time starting on ahigh note realising the high expectations the people have on them. this time around the house is filled with intelectuals and academics who are ready to showcase their experiences for the common mans interest.

Right from the opening speech by His excellency Ngwazi Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika ( it is my first time to call him with much conviction like this on the blog after he won convincingly in the just ended elections) dilivered his keynote address in opening the 41st budget session. all ears were on him listening to a speech titled malawis economic miracle.

priorities priorities and priorities, thats what the speech was full with, there are priorities within priorities which will propell malawi to a succeful five years under Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika. according to him and the constitution, this will be his last five years. despite facing hostile condition in the first half, the Bingu government managed to achieve landmark development. my understanding is that, this time if this government fails, it will have no excuse on anyone as they have a full squad of 140 members of parliament.

It seems on the first day of business which happened to be the 24th june 2009, all members were obsessed with their victories in the elections as seen on the face of Hon. Nicholas Dausi when making his first speech ever in parliament, a speech which was followed byhandclapping and nodding heads from the members very well articulated and i guess it was very well rehearsed, he reminde me of balck Obam when he was making his inaugural speech. dausi begged to move that the presidents speech be debated adn it was so well done with many showering praises on the President.

there were few moments where you would observed faces that could not believe that they are now a minority especcially in the opposition. however they showed some brave sprit by not bragging to be a yes august house, I believe it is this spirit that will make another moment of an interesting house.

Knowing the new speaker to be a very strict man was unusual for me. the man reached a moment of rising from his chair to rule out a point of order from one member, whatever it was, the speaker threatened to invoke section 103 on one member. To me how he led the first day was just superb. however he just has to allow moments of fun in the house.

There is one female voice in the house that keeps speaking in the background things that are hard to hear. she talks to no one but herself, she sits in the fronline bench, she wears nice and she has a good backing of her constituents and according to may she is worthy to be called a member of parliament.

I have one thing against her 'she talks too much things that are tough to understand' maybe if the speaker can be recognising her every time and then that we can hear what she wants to talk that to speak in the background which in the end waves the attention from the member holding the floor to her.

I beg to move that deliberations in the house go on
